Hey, not only am I male, over 40, and white, but I am a citizen of that
unenlightened country which seeks to impose an empire upon the rest
of the world -- & I have contributed a great deal of information to
Wikipedia. I'm very proud that I have helped to write most of the articles
on one of the countries of your continent -- Ethiopia.

I don't know why those other old, white males are so critical of Wikipedia.
Maybe because they see it as a threat to their jobs.

Well perhaps the over 40 demographic is just who should be discussing this on a TV programme - the rest of us all heard of and have been contributing to Wikipedia long ago, and don't watch TV!

It is disappointing if they didn't mention the South African language versions though, at least the fairly vibrant Afrikaans one.

I didn't watch the excerpt, but I can imagine the coverage was like that. I get really pissed off when non-tech people review tech. Even though this isn't even tech!

The points you make on insider/outsider bias reflect on the rest of Carte Blanche as well.

I agree Heather.

But I'm sure it was totally unintentional. It is a perspective of a different "generation". The producer or whoever put the story together just didn't "get" the subject. I also felt let down and frustrated at the end of the programme - I wanted to scream but you're missing what it's all about.
